About Us

On Jan. 1, 2020, the Somerset County Insurance Commission was converted to a health insurance fund to expand our ability to serve municipalities and schools in not only Somerset County but to surrounding Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon Counties. The new fund is the Southern Skylands Regional Health Insurance Fund.

The management and mission of the fund remains the same, to provide affordable, customizable employee health benefits and prescription coverage to our members using pooled resources. The fund remains a self-insured public entity and will continue to be owned and governed by our members.

Like all PERMA Health JIFs, each public entity appoints a Fund Commissioner to represent them. These individuals can have as little or as much involvement in shaping the Fund’s overall direction as they choose. Depending on their needs, the Executive Director and Program Manager can manage every aspect of the Fund, from day-to-day functionality to vendor selection to long-range forecasting.

The fund has an annual budget of $54 Million and currently serves eight member entities which includes 1,855 employees/retirees and provides health benefits for 5,009 members. Click here for details.

Our members have access to Partnership Health Centers in Somerville, where they can receive medical services 7 days a week. Click here for details.
